Friday 19th April, The Stove Café, Dumfries High Street
In April Climate Kitchen invited you to get your hands soily and have a go at growing your own food, regardless of your skills, space or budget.
Stephen Mohan, an outdoor education teacher at the Dumfries Academy, told us all about the school project that blossomed into a community garden just off the high street at the Midsteeple Quarter in the heart of Dumfries.
Jill Asher spoke to us of the incredible mental health and social benefits of Incredible Edible, a community guerrilla gardening scheme that connects communities, spreads growing knowledge and leaves behind an edible legacy for folk to help themselves to as they’re passing.
And we all left the event with smiles on our faces as we admired our takeaway mint plant courtesy of Beth Webb, a passionate grower and foodie based just out of Newton Stewart. She imparted much more than seedlings, helping us decide what, when and how to grow. Beth has left us with some handy notes to refer to throughout the growing season. Happy planting!
We’ll be hosting a seed swap at every Climate Kitchen event from now until the autumn. If you have some seeds to share, or want to grow your collection, don’t be shy – pop along and help yourself!
